Everyone has heard about cellulite and know what it looks like, but what it really is and why it occurs, let’s see. Wikipedia gives the following definition:
Cellulite is a cosmetology term.
Cellulite is a cosmetic problem in the appearance of the skin, changes in which are due to structural changes in the subcutaneous fat. This skin condition is not a disease, is not included in the international classification of diseases and does not require treatment.
Outwardly, it is manifested by tuberosity of the skin in the form of an “orange peel”.
Cellulite occurs in most post-pubertal women. The prevalence among women is 85-98%, which indicates the physiological rather than pathological nature of cellulite.
The causes of cellulite formation can be the result of a complex combination of factors, including structural, endocrine (hormonal), and genetic (hereditary).
Thus, we can say about the essence of this phenomenon in a nutshell:
Cellulite is not a disease, it is tissue regeneration!
Uneven deposition of subcutaneous fat due to the lobular structure of subcutaneous adipose tissue in women is called lipodystrophy.
Lipodystrophy is more common in women, sometimes in men with a disturbed hormonal background – an excess of estrogens. Visual manifestations may be absent, since male skin is denser and less elastic, and collagen fibers, the “framework” of the subcutaneous fat layer, are located crosswise, forming cells.
The main external manifestation – the so-called “orange peel” can be detected only when the skin is compressed into a fold. There is no direct relationship between the development of lipodystrophy and body weight.
Slender and thin women, as well as full ones, are not immune from the influence of genetic factors that determine the structure of subcutaneous adipose tissue, the effects of female sex hormones, including the use of hormonal contraception and defects in the vascular bed.
Improper diet, sedentary lifestyle and stress often affect the increase in the volume of adipocytes (fat cells).
Most often, women turn to cosmetologists and massage therapists for the prevention and elimination of cellulite.
Modern cellulite prevention tips include:
- eating a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables and fiber
- maintaining water balance by drinking enough fluids
- doing regular exercises to keep your muscles toned
- maintaining a healthy body weight
In the fight against cellulite, external cosmetics are widely used – special oils, creams and scrubs.
Regular massage procedures, physiotherapy methods are recommended.
